Our destination is Silver Creek in central Idaho with expert fly angler and author, Matt Miller, and biologist, Erika Phillips, with The Nature Conservancy. The Nature Conservancy operates an 881-acre open-to-the-public preserve on Silver Creek, one of the West’s most iconic spring creeks. It’s a magical place with crystal clear water, cloud-like hatches, and beautiful scenery, and yet many anglers depart humbled. Matt and Erika share why this may be, along with stories of botched casts, spooky trout, Jack Hemmingway, and tips on how to win the day on this challenging stream.
Matt is director of science communications for The Nature Conservancy and award-winning author and editor of the Cool Green Science blog. He has written many articles appearing in Fly Fisherman, Flyfishing & Tying Journal, Field & Stream, and many more. Erika is the Watershed Manager for The Nature Conservancy’s Idaho Chapter and is implementing an ambitious 5-year plan to enhance the Silver Creek Preserve for all of us.
